NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) - A southern Indiana prosecutor says it is likely the trial of a man charged with killing three women will be moved because of extensive news coverage of the case.
Floyd County Prosecutor Keith Henderson says that defense attorneys for 54-year-old William Gibson told a judge during a closed hearing Wednesday that they would seek a change of venue. Henderson told reporters that he thought the request was fair.
Henderson is seeking the death penalty against Gibson for this year's deaths of 35-year-old Stephanie Kirk of Charlestown and 75-year-old family friend Christine Whitis in New Albany. Gibson's also charged in the 2002 stabbing death of Karen Hodella of Florida.
Henderson says he expects reports on Gibson's mental competency will soon be completed.
Gibson's attorneys didn't speak with reporters after Wednesday's hearing.
