CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) - The murder trial of a northwestern Indiana man accused of killing his wife and two stepchildren is under way following five years of delays.

Lake County prosecutors opened 47-year-old Kevin Isom's trial Monday by telling jurors Isom ended his marriage in August 2007 by murdering his wife and her two teenage children in the family's Gary apartment. Police say 40-year-old Cassandra Isom was shot in the head and her two children suffered gunshot wounds to their bodies.

Isom could face the death penalty if he's convicted in the killings.

The Times of Munster reports Isom's triple-murder trial has been delayed multiple times. Last March, Lake Criminal Court Judge Thomas Stefaniak declared a mistrial following a failed attempt at jury selection.
