INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - U.S. attorney Joe Hogsett has created a civil rights task force to improve local efforts to protect the civil rights of people in the Southern District of Indiana.

Hogsett announced the creation of the task force Monday on the national holiday commemorating the birthday of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

Hogsett says assistant U.S. attorneys from civil and criminal divisions within his office will lead the task force that will work with local law enforcement agencies and advocacy groups to investigate allegations of civil rights violations.

The task force has created a complaint form that's available online .

Hogsett says the local activities will be coordinated with the Civil Rights Division of Justice Department, which traditionally has handled most civil rights matters.
