ROLLING PRAIRIE, Ind. (AP) - The National Weather Service has determined that a tornado hit a rural area of northern Indiana as strong storms moved across the state.

The weather service says the EF1 tornado was on the ground for about a mile Saturday near the LaPorte County town of Rolling Prairie. The tornado had winds around 90 mph, knocking down several trees and destroying a barn and garage.

Robert Tibbs tells WSBT-TV that he's grateful that no one was hurt in the area where he lives about 15 miles west of South Bend. Tibbs says he saw trees just fall over during the storm.

About 100,000 homes or businesses across much of the state lost power for a time after the storms came through Saturday and early Sunday.
