Workforce development head leaving job

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The head of Indiana's Department of Workforce Development is leaving his position, adding to the list of leadership turnover during Gov. Mitch Daniels' last year in office.

The governor's office announced Tuesday that Mark Everson was stepping down after nearly two years as commissioner of the workforce development agency. He'll be replaced on May 1 by Scott Sanders, who since July 2010 has been a deputy commissioner at the agency that oversees the state's unemployment and job-training programs.

Everson will be vice chairman at Houston-based tax services company alliantgroup.

Everson's resignation follows the departures of Daniels' general counsel and his director of management and budget in recent months. The revenue department commissioner also is resigning after the discovery that more than $500 million in tax collections were mishandled.
