Pendleton, Ind. (WISH) - A Pendleton police officer accused of allowing an intoxicated person to drive home is not getting fired.
The chief suspended officer Mike Moore last month and recommended termination to the safety board. But right before the termination hearing, the chief says Moore submitted a retirement request letter to the board.
Thursday, the board unamiously voted to grant Moore retirement with full benefits. It's a move the chief staunchly opposes. "It just undermines the sanctity and oath we take and the pride we have."
The department began investigating Moore following a November 2009 DUI traffic stop. The chief says Cruiser video from Moore's car shows the driver failing field sobriety tests, but there was no record of an arrest.
The driver later admitted he was high on prescription drugs.
A couple from Benton County was arrested for meth Saturday afternoon.
