Central Indiana motorcyclists came together in Beech Grove Sunday to have fun and raise money for a good cause. They jumped on their bikes and took a ride for Rupert's Kids.
The intersection of Seventh and Main Streets in Beech Grove would normally be quiet on a Sunday morning, but not this particular Sunday morning.
"We're out here hanging out going to go on a little bike ride today," said event organizer Rupert Boneham.
Of course, nothing this big personality heads up is really little. Rupert Boneham gathered dozens of motorcyclists Sunday morning to ride about 130 miles and raise money for the at-risk children he serves.
He says the riders from the Beech Grove Fraternal Order of Eagles are the perfect people to help those kids.
"Being able to show that sometimes those of us that don't exactly look like we fit, fit the most in helping and help the most and work. The same way that I show when you give to yourself and others and it brings all of you up. These are the people that I use as the examples in my program," Rupert explained.
"This was the second time these cyclists jumped on their bikes for Rupert's Kids. And they've raised money for lots of other good causes as well.
"We as Eagle Riders get involved with the community to help with different charities throughout the year. We use our motorcycles to have fun and promote family oriented rides and help the charities," motorcyclist Kevin Sellars said.
Those charities include the Muscular Dystrophy Association, The American Cancer Society, and the Diabetes Youth Foundation of Indiana.
"Being out on your bike on a day like today and actually supporting somebody and helping a cause, nothing better," said Sellars.
They rode from Beech Grove to Rushville, onto Shelbyville, Whiteland, and Indianapolis before returning to Beech Grove.
It was a day of fun and for Rupert's Kids, a day of fortune.
