BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) - The Indiana High School Athletics Association is facing a lawsuit filed on behalf of a Bloomington high school freshman.

The suit alleges IHSAA is violating Title IX by not allowing 14-year old Logan Young to try out or play baseball for Bloomington High School South.

Young has played on co-ed teams since she was five-years old and wants to play for the high school team.. However, the school has a girls softball team and the IHSAA prohibits girls from playing baseball if there is a softball team.

Young's attorney filed the suit in federal court.

"It's clear that without the help of the court the IHSAA intends to keep Logan and girls like her from trying to make the baseball team and play the sport they love," Attorney Sharon McKee said.

"I have proven myself since I was five that I was able to play with the boys and why should that change my freshman year," Logan said.

"She wants to play baseball, I want to see her play baseball. She's a baseball player," Logan's father Russell Young said.

Young's attorney says she hopes a judge will grant an injunction so she can try out for the baseball team in February.
