INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Republican candidate for the seventh congressional district is taking some heat for tweets.
Marvin Scott's campaign manager, Stan Solomon, has strong anti-gay views, and often shares them in 140 characters or less.
Solomon equates being gay with being a pedophile, and refers to homosexuals with pejorative slang.
Hoosiers may remember Stan Solomon as the outspoken ultra conservative button pusher talk-radio host on WIBC. Solomon now serves as Scott's campaign manager, and he tweets frequently.
Many posts feature anti-gay rhetoric.
Some of his posts read as follows: "Homosexuality is wrong and dangerous to everyone." "Filthy Queer wants kids of 14 for sex." "U should not allow queers around kids." "Gay stands for Got AIDS Yet?"
I don't know what he wrote, so I can't comment on it. But I do want to say I apologize to that community," said Scott. "I'm disappointed to hear this, and I am taking steps to remedy that."
Asked what remedies he's considering Scott answered, “I wouldn't like to say that, but it's the way any administrator would act when there's a loose cannon on the ship."
A group of Democrats is calling on Solomon to resign. The Indiana Stonewall Democrats sent out a press release Monday calling Solomon's posts xenophobic and homophobic. It says Scott has ignored Solomon's frequent offensive comments.
