2 airlifted after car accident in Rushville

RUSHVILLE, Ind. (Rushville Republican) - A report of a two vehicle head-on collision on county road CR 200S near CR 350E was received at the Rush County Sheriff's Department shortly after 7 p.m. Monday, according to our news partner at the Rushville Republican.

The caller reported that both drivers were still inside their vehicles, resulting in multiple agencies being dispatched to the area.

Responders found that an eastbound 1996 Jeep Cherokee driven by Ethan C. Carter, 18, of Glenwood, was struck by a westbound 2005 Dodge Dakota truck driven by Aaron Scott Newbold, 22, of Rushville.

Newbold told investigators that he was unable to see the eastbound Jeep as a result of sunlight momentarily blinding him.

The force of impact caused extensive damage to both vehicles.

Carter's Jeep spun and struck a nearby concrete culvert before coming to rest.

Multiple air ambulance services were contacted out of concern over the seriousness of injuries due to the violent nature of the collision.

Carter sustained a possible leg and facial fracture along with multiple contusions and lacerations.

Following initial medical treatment the Glenwood man was transported from the scene to an Indianapolis trauma center. The full extent of his injuries is unknown.

Newbold was treated for a scalp laceration and other unspecified injuries.

Following treatment at the scene he was transported to Rush Memorial Hospital and a waiting air ambulance for transport to an Indianapolis trauma center.

It was learned Tuesday that Newbold had since been released from the hospital although the full extent of his injuries remains unknown.

According to investigating officer RCSD deputy Alan Rice, the accident is still under investigation.
