28 ft. rooster causes controversy

LIBERTY, Ind. (WISH) - The aptly named Liberty Bell restaurant, located in Liberty, Ind., has set up a colorful, 16 ft. wide, 28 ft. high rooster sign to attract customers.

The restaurant is located along the town’s symbolic "chicken trail," which is known for its salutes to poultry.

But the sign has apparently run afoul of the town’s zoning regulations.

Local officials say the chicken is simply too big, and they want it to come down.

But folks who live in Liberty say it’s part of their town.

“I think it’s stupid,” one resident said of the push to remove the sign. “I think the chicken should stay. ”

The zoning board will meet Monday to decide the fate of the controversial rooster.
