NEW CASTLE, Ind. (WISH) - A routine traffic stop led Indiana State Police to a large haul of cocaine worth nearly $4 million on Tuesday.
At about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, an ISP trooper pulled a semi tractor-trailer over on Interstate 70 near the 129-mile marker in Henry County for a routine DOT inspection but became suspicious after speaking with the truck’s driver and passenger.
The driver gave permission for a search of the tractor, where troopers found 20 kilograms of cocaine in brick form, wrapped in duct tape, and the refrigerated trailer, where troopers found another 17 bricks of cocaine widen among its load of lettuce. ISP said the cocaine would have a street value of just under $4 million.
The trailer originated in California and was headed to New Jersey, ISP said.
The driver, Mosies Delgado, 26, Homestead, Fla., and Rene Rocha, 52, Fontana, Calif., both were arrested and preliminarily charged with possession of cocaine with intent to deliver and possession of cocaine, both Class A felonies. Both men were being held Tuesday on $69,000 bond each.
