SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - An accident in Shelby County has closed State Road 9 Thursday night.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department says a car was heading southbound in the 9000 block of SR 9 when the driver swerved to avoid an animal.

The car then went off the roadway and hit a pole, causing it to break and catch fire.

The 16-year-old driver was taken to Major Hospital in stable condition.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to have played a role at this time.

State Road 9 is closed due to a low hanging power line across the roadway. The power company was on the scene.
