SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - The fire that destroyed the grandstand at the Shelby County fairgrounds was intentionally set, Shelbyville fire officials said Wednesday.
"We have ruled out all accidental causes," Lt. Jeff Tennell with the Shelbyville Fire Department said.
And now, investigators need help from the public. Anyone with information or pictures of the grandstand before the fire was put out is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS, or email tips@cityofshelbyvillein.com. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
A picture could be the key investigators need to crack this case. Tennell said a photo might help pinpoint where the fire started.
The International Association of Arson Investigators Indiana Chapter is also offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case. You can call 1-800-382-4682.
The blaze at the fairgrounds in Shelbyville happened in the weekend overnight hours. Firefighters battled the blaze into Saturday morning .
The grandstand structure had been at the fairgrounds for more than 100 years.
As for the Shelby County Fair, it's set to start July 2. Temporary bleachers will be brought in next week.
