SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - Bridge replacement will close Ind. 9 in southern Shelby County on Monday. The project – and closure - is slated to last up to 120 days.
INDOT will remove and replace a 58-year-old arched bridge that crosses Lewis Creek, between Shelby County roads 450 South and 500 South, about four and half miles south of Shelbyville. The new bridge – to be built by contractor Duncan Robertson – will be significantly wider than the old bridge, and will accommodate two 12-foot lanes with 9-foot shoulders.
The official detour routes southbound drivers west on Ind. 44 from Shelbyville to Interstate 65 at Franklin, south to Ind. 252 near Edinburgh, then east to Ind. 9 (and the reverse for northbound drivers).
The project is expected to cost about $983,000.
