RICHMOND, Ind. (WISH) - Richmond Fire Department worked to free two people after a car crashed into the Richmond Civic Theatre on Friday afternoon, the Richmond Palladium-Item reports.

After the car crashed into the Memory Room of the theater at 10th and Main streets, emergency crews removed debris and securing the scene before the driver and passenger could exit the car.

The driver of the car, Wilma Taft, 91, Eaton, Ohio, told police her car slid as she turned from North 10th Street onto East Main Street, then hit the curb. She swerved toward the building to avoid westbound traffic on Main Street, the newspaper reports. Neither she nor the passenger in the car were injured.

Theater staff said the show scheduled to open Friday night, "The Diviners," would go on as scheduled at 7:30 p.m.

No one was in the room where the crash happened, and the front door and main section of the theater were not damaged in the crash, the newspaper reports.
