SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - The trial date for a former cheerleading coach arrested for seducing a 17-year-old male athlete has been moved back a few weeks.
Megan Crafton was 22 years old when she was the part-time assistant cheerleading coach at Shelbyille High School. The incident occurred in January and Crafton turned herself in to police in June.
Crafton's trial, which was originally set for Monday, will now take place on October 15 in Shelby Superior Court II, our partners at the Shelbyville News report.
Crafton's attorneys argue that Crafton did not have any authority over the boy's team or the 17-year-old himself. They point she was not paid for her duties and did not sign a contract with the school system.
Crafton faces a Class D felony charge of child seduction. If convicted, she could face six months to a few years in prison.
