BENGAL, Ind. (WISH) - The Department of Natural Resources says a second reported sighting of a mountain lion is also a hoax.
Conservation officers received a report of a mountain lion in Bengal, a town in western Shelby County.
But like a report in the town of West Newton earlier this month , DNR officials said the sighting in Shelby County was a hoax.
There was one confirmed sighting of a mountain lion in Indiana in recent years. It was in Greene County in May 2010. It wasn’t clear at the time whether the lion was wild or if it had previously escaped from captivity.
DNR officials said they have received hundreds of reports of mountain lion sightings since April 2010, but must have no supporting evidence or turned out to be dogs.
