WINCHESTER, Ind. (AP) - The wife of an eastern Indiana city's mayor has quit her job as his secretary after a state audit found some money missing.
The audit report says nearly $1,700 in park building rental fees collected by the Winchester mayor's office between January 2011 and this June was never submitted to the city clerk-treasurer's office.
Winchester Mayor Steve Croyle tells T he Star Press that he's not certain what happened to the money and that security in his office "isn't the greatest."
The audit report says Croyle's wife repaid the missing amount to the city. She resigned from her job the day after meeting with state auditors in June.
Randolph County Prosecutor David Daly says he's asked for a special prosecutor to review the audit.
