WINCHESTER, Ind. (WISH) - One person died and another was injured when a Winchester home caught fire early Tuesday morning.

The Indiana State Fire Marshal's office was still on the scene of the fire as of 8:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Dispatchers took multiple calls around 3:15 a.m. reporting the house fire in the 1500 block of Old State Road 27, about one mile south of Winchester.

As White River Township fire trucks arrived on the scene, the one-story house was engulfed in flames. Additional firefighters from Winchester and Lynn Fire Departments responded.

The area does not have fire hydrants so fire crews relied on tanker trucks to help bring the flames under control in about 45 minutes. Fire officials say once they were able to gets the fire under control enough to enter the house, they located one victim inside, deceased. A second person was able to escape the blaze, but was seriously injured. The injured person was taken by medical helicopter to St. Vincent Hospital - Indianapolis.

The name of the victims were not immediately released.
