Indiana's first woman Senate secretary turns 103

MILTON, Ind. (AP) - An eastern Indiana woman who served as the first female secretary to the Indiana Senate is preparing to celebrate her 103rd birthday.
Milton resident Pauline Druley will gather Sunday with friends and relatives at Friends Fellowship Community in Richmond to toast her long life.
The Palladium-Item reports Druley was born on Sept. 30, 1909. After graduating from Earlham College, she taught school, attended secretarial school in Washington, D.C., and worked for an attorney there.
After returning home to Indiana, she married her late husband, Ivan Druley, and worked for Earlham College's president. In 1961, she was chosen as the first female secretary to the Indiana Senate.
Her work in state government and the Democratic Party led her to be awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash honor in 2004.
