Five dogs found shot to death

GREENSBURG, Ind. (WISH) - Horse back riders trotting along the countryside of Decatur County made a gruesome discovery Sunday afternoon.

They found five dead dogs. Two of which were tied up against some brush, the other three were scattered in a wooded area.

It was clearly evident that all five suffered gun shot wounds to the head, Decatur County Sheriff Gregory Allen said. He was puzzled when we asked if he’s seen anything like this before.

“Not in all my years in law enforcement; nothing to this magnitude,” said Allen.

The dogs were described as weighing 20 to 30 pounds. Investigators say all five resemble Corgis. The long, low to the ground dog that’s wildly popular in the United Kingdom.

“It’s sad very sad, some people don’t deserve animals, that’s just my opinion,” said Decatur County resident Dave Russeau.

The dogs were found on Sunday, but police believe they may have been killed days before they were spotted. Despite the dogs being left in a remote area, deputies have some leads on who may be responsible for the crime.

“We possibly have a couple of suspects, said Sheriff Allen. “ It’s early in our investigation.”

As of Monday afternoon County Deputies had yet to make any arrest.
