Former Ind. hospital's owners put land up for sale

RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) - The owners of a shuttered eastern Indiana hospital are selling four plots of land, raising questions about what's in store for the Richmond site.

Spring Grove Development LLC announced plans in 2010 to develop the 60-acre former Reid Hospital campus in four phases, starting with a $21 million investment in a student housing project set for groundbreaking last fall.

But Richmond Mayor Sally Hutton tells the Palladium-Item it's unclear why that project hasn't started and why Spring Grove is selling off four acres of land. The firm's development plan had also included a technology park, a hotel and a gated residential community.

Reid Hospital moved in 2008 to a new $318 million hospital complex about two miles from the old hospital that dates to the early 1900s.
