SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - The Shelby County Health Department is offering free flu shots to Shelby County residents on Thursday.

Residents 18 years old and over have the opportunity to receive a free flu shot at the department office located at 1600 East State Road 44.

The clinic will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Residents can also arrive between 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The Health Department says vaccinations will be offered on a first come, first serve basis while supplies last.

The clinic is open for those 18 years of age or older, however younger residents may be eligible for a free flu shot if they have Medicaid or no insurance.

According to the CDC, flu season typically begins in October and lasts through May. Getting a shot early could provide protection throughout the season.

The Health Department in Shelby County says:

  • Anyone six months of age and older should get a flu shot.
  • The elderly are more vulnerable to the flu so the CDC highly recommends seniors be vaccinated.
  • Those who already have a bad cough or flu symptoms should not attend the clinic.
  • Anyone allergic to eggs should consult their medical provider about flu protection.
