RICHMOND, Ind. (WISH) - A Richmond man was taken into custody early Wednesday morning after offering to sell drugs to a trooper, Indiana State Police report.

Trooper Nate Raney was wearing plain clothes as he crossed the street on Richmond’s south side. A man quickly approached Raney and explained his girlfriend kicked him out of the house.

State Police say the man, later identified as Justin Michael McNamara, offered to sell Raney drugs.

McNamara allegedly pulled several pills and marijuana cigarettes out of his pocket and offered them to the trooper.

Raney then informed the man that he was an Indiana State Police trooper. ISP say the man thought Raney was joking until he was put into handcuffs.

McNamara was booked into the Wayne County Jail on initial charges of dealing a controlled substance and dealing marijuana.

Anyone with information about illegal drug use may call the Pendleton Post at 1-800-527-4752, or the Indiana State Police Drug Tip Line at 1-800-453-4756. Tips can be made and kept anonymous.
