NEW CASTLE, Ind. (AP) - Henry County Jail officials are taking steps to bar traffickers who try to use holes in the walls to smuggle drugs and cellphones to inmates.
County Commissioners have approved construction of an eight-foot fence along two sides of the jail. Neighbors complained after the arrests of two women accused of using a metal tube to try to shove pills through a hole in one of the jail's walls.
Sheriff Butch Baker tells The Courier-Times ( http://bit.ly/LA0MN4 ) the jail has long had problems with people "popping" or drilling holes in the jail's walls to get illegal items inside to inmates.
Baker obtained free fencing that was previously in Osborne Park for the project. Installation will cost about $600, and he hopes to have the project completed within a month.
