NTSB releases first Greensburg crash report

GREENSBURG, Ind. (WISH) - The National Transportation Safety Board has released a preliminary report into the G reensburg plane crash that killed four people .

The report reaffirmed that investigators found no anomalies with the airplane or the pilot guidance lights at the Greensburg airport. They had indicated as much in their initial news conference last week . Air traffic controllers last spoke with the pilot, Donald Horan, as he was four miles out from the airport, the report says.

Witnesses told investigators conditions were foggy and misting at the time of the Dec. 2 crash and that they did not see pilot-controlled runway lights turned on.

Navigation and personal data devices found in the wreckage were sent to a Washington, D.C., lab for examination.

The crash killed Horan, his wife, Barb, and another couple, Stephen and Denise Butz The two couples left behind six kids. Long lines at visitation for the four last week testified to their impact on their community. Don Horan was a prominent businessman in the community, and both couples were active in their church and their children’s schools.

The four were returning to Indiana after a trip to Florida.
