SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (The Shelbyville News) - A Shelbyville babysitter took a 7-year-old with him to burglarize a home, police said.
24-Hour News 8 news partner The Shelbyville News reports Dustin Whisenant is facing several felony charges in connection to the incident Saturday afternoon.
Shelbyville Police said someone reported seeing a man break into a house in the 100 block of Elliott Street. When officers arrived, they found a silver PT Cruiser in the nearby alley with Whisenant and a 7-year-old girl in the vehicle, police said.
Whisenant reportedly drove the vehicle toward an officer, only stopping when the officer drew a weapon. Then, police said, Whisenant sped off and was found in the 800 block of West Washington Street.
After being treated for arm pain, Whisenant was taken to Shelby County Jail. He is charged with burglary resulting in bodily injury, a Class A felony; and theft, neglect of a dependent, resisting law enforcement and obstruction of justice, all Class D felonies.
