COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) - Columbus Police say a teenage girl made up a story about a man trying to abduct her in order to get attention at school.

Police conducted a follow-up interview with the 14-year-old middle school student and determined the girl's story was fake. Detectives also reviewed surveillance cameras, which showed the incident never occurred.

Our partners at the Republic report the girl originally said a man tried to lure her into a van as she walked to school. The girl later told detectives and a guidance counselor at school that she made the incident up in order to get attention at school.

The girl has not been arrested for false reporting.
