Police probe suspicious death of Shelbyville woman

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - Little is know about how a Shelbyville senior citizen died. On Friday police found 74-year-old Genevieve Kelly, of Shelbyville dead inside her home. The case became suspicious after family members concluded someone ransacked the woman’s home on Mechanic Street near downtown Shelbyville.

“It’s terrible. It makes you feel unsafe in your own home, said neighbor Amy Farnsley. “I don’t know what happened but it makes you want to keep your doors locked.”

Detectives marched in and out of the home from morning until dusk. Police still have few clues and little details on what happened.

“At this time if anyone saw anything we (would like to talk to them), we don’t even have a time frame right now on when this happened,” said Shelbyville Lt. Michael Turner.

What is known is that Kelly, the victim who died, didn’t deserve this. Neighbors call her a sweet woman, who worked in her yard often, and despite living alone she remained friendly to those she came in contact with.

“She would talk in an old southern way, so sweet and polite,” said Farnsley.

Neighbors tell 24 Hour News Eight, that victim’s daughter would check in on her often.
