GREENFIELD, Ind. (WISH) - A juvenile was taken in for questioning Wednesday after an officer discovered an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle in a vehicle.

Officers with the Greenfield Police Department initiated a traffic stop Wednesday morning in Greenfield on a car that had an invalid license plate.

In the car was a 16-year-old male from Indianapolis and the 19-year-old driver, Terriell G. Waddell, who officers found did not have a valid driver's license.

The vehicle was towed due to the driver not having a valid license.

During an inventory of the car, which is protocol for a vehicle being towed, officers found a modified semi-automatic handgun under the driver's seat.

After a check, it was uncovered that the gun was reported stolen in 2006 from an Elkhart business burglary.

It was also discovered by police that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Indianapolis on Dec. 27.

Waddell and 16-year-old were taken into custody. During questioning, Waddell admitted to stealing the car and the license plate from another vehicle. He also admitted to buying the gun on the street in Indianapolis.

He was taken to the Hamilton County Jail while the juvenile was released to family.
