SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - Police are searching for suspects who have stolen jewelry from several homes throughout Shelby, Rush, and Hancock counties.

Homes in the counties have been the target of burglars who take jewelry while the residents are away, our partners at the Shelbyville News report.

"Right now our investigators are working with the other county's investigators to see if any of them are connected so we can stop these guys," Shelby County Sheriff's Department Maj. David Tilford said.

Officials say the burglars mostly take jewelry, although some electronics have also been stolen from the homes. In most of the recent burglaries, thieves had broken a window or kicked in a door to gain entrance.

Police in Shelby County are increasing patrols. Police also say people should make sure their homes are locked when they leave.
