HANCOCK CO., Ind. (WISH) - Police in Hancock County are still looking for two suspected thieves that targeted trailers at a truck stop off of Mt. Comfort Road.

Police telling 24-Hour News 8 that three suspects were trying to steal freight from the semi trailers early Sunday morning.

Someone spotted them as they were trying to unload laundry detergent.

The police k-9 was able to catch one suspected thief, but the other two got away.

As a result, the suspect in custody had to be hospitalized. 24-Hour News 8 talked to Joe Kane, a trucker, who says this doesn’t surprise him at all because its easy to get rid of the stolen goods very easily.

"They don't mess with the big stuff cause they have serial numbers, they go after the tides, sodas, chips-thing with no serial number, no records. They can dump that stuff on a wholesaler down the road and nobody knows".

He says the best way truckers can protect themselves is to make yourself a "hard target" saying, "you have to watch and put a lock on the back of you load and don't park against a corn field".
