GREENFIELD, Ind. (WISH) - Hancock County Prosecutor Michael Griffin will be doing double in about a week.

He's being deployed to Gitmo, the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, and will run the
the office to which he's been elected by using cell phones and email.

Griffin is an Army Reservist and has been deployed to both Quatar and Kuwait. He was stationed at Fort Bragg with the US Army Special Operations Command. Now, in Cuba, his primary responsibility will be with the military police.

"I will be the command's point person for military justice issues, responsible for supervising and training military police who guard the detainees," he said.

Griffin has a wife, Mindy, and two sons, ages 7 and 9. He expects to be gone for eight months, with a possible visit home around Christmas time.

"For me this deployment is about serving my country. I'm really excited about the opportunity to do it. Of course I'm concerned for my family, and I want them to be well taken care of while I'm away," he said.

Cuba and Indiana are one time zone apart. Griffin expects to tend to office meetings and
details in between his military duties.

"I'll be wearing a military uniform rather than a suit, but much of the work is the same," he said.
