SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - Police officers won’t be charged in connection to a police-action shooting in Shelbyville in January, 24-Hour News 8 news partner The Shelbyville News reports.
Shelby County Prosecutor Kent Apsley tells the newspaper officers acted appropriately during the incident in which 22-year-old Lyman Dawson was shot on Jan. 7 .
Apsley reviewed the Shelbyville Police Department’s policies on use of force and determined the officers acted as they were trained.
Indiana State Police have not finished the investigation into the incident, but Apsley said he felt he had enough information from ISP to make a preliminary decision.
Dawson was critically injured in the January shooting after police say he broke into a car, fired a gun at residents, broke into a home and shot at officers.
