COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) - Columbus residents say they are pleased with the increase in police patrols at a local park.
Our partners at the Republic say the residents are feeling encouraged after the increase in patrols resulted in less fights, drug activity, juvenile problems and suspicious behavior in the neighborhood.
Columbus city officials say the increase in patrols is a "blueprint to help other troubled Columbus neighborhoods." Officials say they will make similar moves in other neighborhoods in the city.
"It is unacceptable, and we won't tolerate having a neighborhood and a park in our community where the residents don't feel safe," Mayor Kristen Brown said.
The city says they will next target neighborhoods near Pence Place.
