Restored Ind. depot could become children's museum

RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) — An eastern Indiana couple who restored a century-old railroad depot says the building could be turned into a children's museum or a banquet hall.
Roger and Theresa Richert bought the depot for $75,000 and financed the restoration of the now 111-year-old brick building with help of public funds.
Roger Richert tells the Palladium-Item the historic space would be free to the Treehouse-Richmond Children's Museum if it can line up funding to turn the space into a museum.
That group would need to raise about $500,000 to complete renovation work on the depot's walls and ceilings and to install a sprinkler system and restrooms.
If the children's museum group cannot secure funding, Richert says he's ready to pursue an alternate proposal of turning the depot into a banquet hall.
