SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - Police are warning Shelbyville residents to be wary of people posing as employees of medical insurance companies.

An elderly woman told police she was contacted on Monday by someone who said they were from her medical insurance company. The person said they needed to someone to her home to check her medical condition.

A man in a white lab coat did arrive at the woman’s house two hours after scheduled, and the woman turned him away.

Officers advise people to call their insurance company to confirm they need to send someone to their home, and before letting anyone inside. If someone shows up claiming to be from an insurance company, call police.
