CONNERSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - A 2-year-old boy was fatally shot Thursday evening in Connersville, police said.
Connersville Police told 24-Hour News 8 the boy's 5-year-old brother was playing with the toddler when the two got the gun out of a gun box and shot the toddler. The incident happened at about 8 p.m. at a home in the 500 block of Reid Street.
Officials say the toddler was shot in the head. The boys’ father told police he didn’t think there was a bullet in the chamber of the gun. The child also had a twin sister.
Police are still investigating. There’s a possibility that charges could be brought against the parents.
Several children have been involved in accidental shootings this summer in central Indiana. Police said a 3-year-old boy shot himself in the arm July 4, and a boy was shot in the foot in downtown Indianapolis the same day. Late last month, a 6-year-old was fatally shot by his older brother in a home near Martinsville, police said.
