NEW PALESTINE, Ind. (WISH) - An Indianapolis man had to be flown by medical helicopter to a hospital after getting pinned under a tractor that fell into a pond in New Palestine.
The incident happened around 11 a.m. Thursday in the Seifert Creek subdivision. Police believe the man - identified Thursday afternoon as Oren Killebrew, 23, Indianapolis - and other workers were trying to remove a tree near the pond’s edge when the tractor rolled backward toward the pond.
Coworkers shouted to Killebrew to jump off the tractor, but he wasn’t able to in time.
When crews arrived, the his coworkers were trying to free him from the tractor in 4 to 4 ½ feet of water. Officers worked with the employees to lift the tractor off the man.
Once Killebrew was freed, emergency workers began CPR. He was then taken to New Palestine High School, where a medical helicopter landed. He was then flown to St. Vincent Hospital North, where he was in critical condition.
