HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - Hancock County investigators say they’ve arrested a Henry County couple in connection with at least one recent home burglary.

They’re working to connect Kristina Boffing and Scott Boffing Jr. to several other recent jewelry thefts.

24-Hour News 8 told you last week about a rash of burglaries in multiple counties. The most recent burglaries in Hancock County happened in the northeastern part of the county, near Shirley.

Wednesday, 24-Hour News 8 sat down with Kristina Boffing in the Hancock County Jail.

“I’ve been an addict, my whole life. I have battled,” said Boffing.

43-year-old Kristina Boffing sits in the Hancock County Jail, facing burglary and theft charges.

“I went to prison several years ago, and did almost four years,” she said. “I got sober.”

But recently she says, she relapsed, again using heroin and prescription medications.

“Within a few months, this is what it’s brought me to. It’ll bring you to your knees.”

Boffing says she was involved in just one burglary. She says she went into an elderly woman's home with her husband and her young son, asking to use the bathroom.

“It was just a split second, I took like three necklaces, and we left,” she said. “It’s one of those things you can’t undo once we’ve done it.”

When asked if she wanted to say anything to that victim, Boffing said, “Oh my god I am so sorry. So sorry.”

Detectives say they found other jewelry in the Boffing's home, as well.

“The detectives have had meetings with other counties, with other detectives and are working on these burglaries together,” said Hancock County Sheriff Michael Shepherd. “I’m assuming this will probably clear up several burglaries in other counties with this also.”

Boffing maintained she's only involved in one burglary, and she explained why she says detectives found other stolen items in her home when they searched it.

“A lot of what they call ‘fencing stolen property,’ where people take things, then they bring it to your house, and you turn it for a profit,” she said.

Boffing says she spoke to 24-Hour News 8, to show other people what can happen.

“I made a mistake, I screwed up. But I’m not this evil person,” she explained. “I just relapsed.”

Sheriff Shepherd says several witnesses saw the Boffing's car in the area of recent burglaries, and says it was a dispatcher who saw it and connected the dots.

Shelby County deputies say they will now work to see if this couple was connected to any of their recent burglaries, as well.
