As gas prices jump, commuter service offers options

FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) - Gas prices Tuesday jumped to $4.19 a gallon in Indianapolis, a lot of money especially for those driving downtown from Hamilton County for work. That's exactly why many people take the commuter bus.

Central Indiana Commuter Services transports about 250 people a day from Carmel and Fishers to downtown Indianapolis.

"I am saving a lot of money because I don't need to pay for I don't need to pay for the gas. I'm save a lot by doing the bus," said commuter Parimala Epuri.

The company is expanding its services just in time, as gas prices continue to rise.

"It's convenience for those who work at the hospital and area businesses," said  bus driver Albert McCoy. "They can ride downtown instead of driving."

Thanks to grant money, starting on Monday you can take the bus downtown, head to Hamilton County and then grab one of the waiting shuttles and head to work.

"We're going to various stops, and we might add future stops on. We don't know yet. We have to see where the people are going," McCoy said.

For those regular riders, it's just another reason why they don't drive. It's a way of transportation that just makes sense in the world of high gas prices. An unlimited monthly pass costs $150. One-way trips can also be bought for $5.
