CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) - An unexpected guest invaded a Carmel residence Wednesday afternoon; a buck busted through the front door of a family’s home.
Carmel mother Faith Cate was home when it happened.
"I heard a big crash and I wasn't sure what it was,” Cate said. “(I) came to the door, wanted to see what it was, and my whole screen was all shattered into pieces. I was like, ‘How did that happen?’ and then I looked again and there was a huge deer.”
A buck smashed through her door and was stuck inside, all while her 4-year-old was in the next room and her 1-year-old was upstairs, asleep in her crib.
Cate said the buck kept going back and forth between two rooms, and even tried to get out through a window.
"He went through the kitchen and tried to go through the sliding glass door," Cate said.
Faith immediately grabbed her daughter and went outside. She called 911, but Faith says even the dispatchers didn't know what to do.
"When I called 911 they told me to just shoo the deer out and I said, ‘It’s a huge deer, I can't just shoo it out,’” Cate said.
Carmel Police rushed to her house and were able to lead the deer out the back door. The buck left behind in its tracks shattered glass. It’s 15 minutes Faith Cate will never forget.
"I would have never guessed in a million years that this would have ever happened, especially where we live. We're not in the country," Cate said.
No one was hurt, but the deer was cut and Faith says there was blood everywhere.
Other than blood, shattered glass and some scratch marks on the floor, Faith Cate says the damage is pretty minimal. The insurance company is assessing the damage.
