CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) - A video camera will now be used to count traffic patterns throughout the city of Carmel.

For now, the camera will count traffic patterns at the roundabout on 106th Street and Gray Road.

"We'll use it at one location and move it to other locations and get updated traffic counts on our roundabouts. This is something our engineering department does every year or so. But this is a new piece of equipment, it does it better, cheaper and faster then the old lines you used to see that crossed the street," Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard said.

The data collected will be used to figure out if any improvements are needed.

Brainard said after the camera counts traffic patterns at the roundabouts it will then be used at regular intersections.
