CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) - Carmel Police Department officers shot a man multiple times in the abdomen after he refused to drop a weapon early Monday morning near 96th Street and Ditch Road.

Around 3:15 a.m., police responded to a threat of life call in a neighborhood in the 10000 block of Cedar Ridge Road. The suspect, identified as Aaron David, 25, of Indianapolis, allegedly made threats to his ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend, said Carmel Police Lt. Jeff Horner.

Horner said when officers arrived they found a vehicle matching the description pulling onto a cul-de-sac. David led police on a short pursuit after police ordered him to stop. He then pulled over, got out and attempted to flee on foot.

During the brief foot pursuit, David turned toward the officers, and police say they saw a handgun in the his hand. When he refused to drop the gun, an officer shot him, Horner said.

David was taken to St. Vincent Hospital. Horner said he was getting ready to go into surgery. His wounds are not believed to be life threatening, he said.
