CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) - Homeowners in Carmel are on alert after a string of break-ins.
Police say the suspects knock on doors first to check if anyone is home. If no one answers, the thieves kick in the door and take jewelry, money, and electronics.
The news had one Carmel resident very concerned.
"I was afraid I didn't know if I should answer the door bell," said Jennifer Johnson.
In the likelihood someone does answer the door, the suspects pretend to be looking for a pet or say they are selling magazines. After being confronted they walk away.
Carmel Police posted alerts on Facebook and sent them out to local media outlets, and residents are getting the message.
"We don't want to put out a suspect description,"said Lt. Jeff Horner. "What we want to do is get the message out in the community."
