NOBLESVILLE, Ind.(WISH) - A 33-year-old Noblesville mother is behind bars after police say she was drunk in public while her three children were home alone.
Police say it was a Village Pantry cashier who called them around 11:30 p.m. Monday. The clerk told police the woman reeked of alcohol, was staggering around the store and seemed to be confused.
Police say they took Michelle Knight to Riverview Hospital where she failed field sobriety tests. Officers say the woman then blew a .267 on a portable breathalyzer test unit.
Officers became suspicious when the woman kept talking about her children during the sobriety tests. Another officer was dispatched to the woman’s home where he found her three children, ages 8-years, 6-years and 5-months old, home alone.
Police called CPS who took the children into protective custody.
Knight is charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and three charges of child neglect.
