Cops: Video captures bus driver molesting girl

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - A Hamilton County bus driver arrested Saturday faces counts of child molestation after police say a video camera showing some of the acts was discovered in his home.

The probable cause document alleges Garrett Lee Cornell, 42, molested two different girls as far back as 2009. People close to the investigation say Cornell knew both girls well.

Police were notified after the sexual footage was discovered on the video camera. Officers obtained a search warrant for Cornell's home and were able to locate the video camera. Cornell arrived home while police were still inside and was taken into custody.

Next door neighbor Shiley Thurston watched as officers arrived at Cornell's home on Saturday. His arrest both surprises and bothers Thursten. She says her grandkids played with Cornell's children and step children all the time.

"It breaks my heart because I don't believe in that crap. To think my neighbor might have done that. And my grandkids went over there" said Thurston.

Cornell made his first court appearance Monday afternoon. The judge entered a not guilty plea on his behalf, set bond at $200,000 and scheduled the next court date for May 1st.

Cornell worked as a bus driver for the Noblesville School District and has since been suspended.

Authorities say these allegations aren't connected to Cornell's job.

Administrators say the district is making resources available to support the child and family involved.
