CARMEL, IN.(WISH) - The hot, dry weather may add another entry on the list of local "burn bans."The City of Carmel is monitoring conditions.
Surprisingly, though, fires are less challenging for the city than all of its lawn sprinklers.
About a third of Carmel's water customers have irrigation systems.
That's high for cities in the midwest.
And, when the systems go on, usually before Daybreak ,utility workers can watch water levels fall in Carmel's water towers.
That's why the city encourages its customers to alter their sprinkling schedules a bit.
Sue Maki who is with the City of Carmel Utilities says "Not all residents should water their yards Monday, Wednesday or Friday.
If they can do it on a different day, especially Sundays and Mondays are our hardest times if they can perhaps turn it to another day, then that would help us as well."
Sue Maki says Carmel will spend a day, next month, helping people become more efficient water users to reduce waste and help them save money.
It's timed to coincide with national "Smart irrigation Month."
