FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) - The town of Fishers is doing something that's been under discussion for twenty years. It's moving toward the creation of what they're calling "a real downtown.”
Community Development Director Tom Dickey said it would be the first major redevelopment project in downtown Fishers.
Wednesday, Fishers invited developers to submit proposals for land between Town Hall and 116th Street. Town planners would like to see places there where people could walk, shop and go to dinner. Developers are free to use their imaginations, as long as their design fits Fishers.
“We expect that our architecture will be traditional architecture, a lot of brick, limestone, those type of things," Dickey said. "So, we're looking forward to see what developers thing about developing in downtown Fishers."
Fishers wants to start the project soon. It will announce the winning proposal on Oct. 15. Construction should start in the middle of next year.
